President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Gerber has served as President and CEO of EPOCH since the company’s founding in 1997. From 1991 to 1997, Mr. Gerber was President and CEO of the Berkshire Group, a privately held firm with subsidiaries in long-term care, multifamily real estate and mortgage banking industries with over $10 billion in assets under management. From 1984 to 1990, he served in various senior executive capacities with the Berkshire Group, with responsibilities for real estate acquisitions, mortgage banking, fundraising and strategic planning. Under Mr. Gerber’s direction, Harborside Healthcare (NYSE:HBR), the long-term care subsidiary of Berkshire, successfully completed an IPO and grew to more than 5,000 long-term care beds. While at Berkshire, Mr. Gerber also served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Berkshire Realty Company (NYSE:BRI) and Chairman of Berkshire Mortgage Finance Company. Prior to joining Berkshire, Mr. Gerber was a management consultant with Bain & Company and a senior tax accountant with Arthur Anderson & Company. He received his BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar.
Chief Operating Officer
Mrs. Cormac-Burt has served as Chief Operating Officer of EPOCH Senior Living since 2001. From 1999 to 2001, Mrs. Cormac-Burt served as Senior Vice President, overseeing all of the communities that EPOCH owns and manages. Prior to joining EPOCH, Joanna spent twelve years in various nursing home management roles. Her experience includes service as an Administrator with Hillhaven, where she worked from 1987 to 1996. Mrs. Cormac-Burt also worked at SunBridge Healthcare as the Regional Manager, responsible for the daily operations of 1,250 skilled nursing beds. Joanna is a Massachusetts Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She has a BS in Business Administration from Fitchburg State University and an MBA, which she received in 1996, from Northeastern University.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Pfaff has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since June 2003. Ms. Pfaff was previously Vice President of the Meditrust Companies (NYSE:MT), a healthcare real estate investment trust in which she was responsible for overseeing a portfolio of $2.5 billion of healthcare investments. From 1992 to 2002, she managed a national portfolio of over 400 skilled nursing, assisted living and other healthcare-related properties. In her role at Meditrust, Ms. Pfaff conducted due diligence on various corporate acquisition targets as well as real estate investment opportunities. She actively participated in secondary public offerings of both stocks and bonds in the United States and Europe and worked closely with lending institutions and rating agencies. Ms. Pfaff is a Certified Public Accountant and was a Senior Manager in the healthcare practice at KPMG. She received her BS summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island.
Vice President of Planning and Development
Mr. Gordon joined EPOCH in 1998. He is responsible for the company's acquisition and development effort under the supervision of the company’s President and CEO. Duties include, but are not limited to, identifying and securing acquisition and development opportunities, completing all necessary due diligence related to acquisition opportunities, and selection and management of third-party consultants. This includes market demand analysis and financial modeling. He is also responsible for the oversight of EPOCH’s home health agency and oversees the company’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO) networking strategies. Mr. Gordon has over 20 years of senior housing and post-acute care industry experience. Prior to joining EPOCH in 1998, Mr. Gordon was the Director of Reimbursement for Prism Health Group, a long-term care company that specialized in providing rehabilitation, nursing home management and home care services. He holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley and a MBA from Bryant College.
Karen Roberts, RN
Vice President of Clinical Services
Ms. Roberts joined EPOCH Senior Living in October 1999 as Director of Clinical Services. Ms. Roberts is responsible for clinical outcomes, clinical policy/procedure development and implementation, education, training and conducting peer reviews to ensure quality of care and regulatory compliance. In January 2008, Ms. Roberts was named Vice President of Clinical Services. Prior to joining EPOCH, Ms. Roberts spent 19 years in various nursing home management roles at Hillhaven, Mediplex and Sunbridge and five years in acute care. Ms. Roberts is a graduate of Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing.
Vice President of Memory Care Operations
Ms. Seaver joined EPOCH Senior Living in December 2011. She is responsible for the operations of Bridges® by EPOCH Memory Care Assisted Living communities under the direction of EPOCH Senior Living's Chief Operating Officer, Joanna Cormac-Burt and for maintaining the unique culture and personalized approach to care across all Bridges® communities. Ms. Seaver is a Memory Impairment Specialist certified by the National Institute on Aging, and she serves as an expert educator and trainer for Bridges® by EPOCH associates, families and the greater community. She has more than 25 years of experience in the senior living industry, including her role as Executive Director of the flagship Bridges® by EPOCH community in Hingham, for which she was named Mass-ALFA Executive Director of the Year. With her extensive experience and deep understanding of various forms of dementia, Ms. Seaver supports the Bridges® teams in making a difference in the quality of life of those living with memory challenges.
Director of Acquisitions, Regulatory and Risk Management
Ms. Anderson has been with the company since its founding in 1997. She has conducted financial, legal and operational due diligence on, secured financing for and closed deals on over $250 million in assets. In addition to negotiating deal documents, Ms. Anderson also negotiates significant company contracts. She has obtained zoning and permitting for construction and redevelopment of senior housing. Ms. Anderson, through her strong relationships with state regulators, has secured licensing and approvals to operate from public health departments throughout the country. Ms. Anderson also manages the legal affairs, risk management and budgeting for the company. Prior to joining EPOCH, Ms. Anderson worked for Oasis Healthcare, a senior living company with 10 communities, where she was responsible for acquisitions. Ms. Anderson holds a BA from Simmons College and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law.
Director of Facilities Management
Mr. Fox has been employed by the company since January 2008. Mr. Fox’s primary responsibilities include general project management, programming, budgeting and scheduling for the company’s development and renovation projects. In addition, Mr. Fox is responsible for capital expenditure planning, coordination and implementation for the EPOCH portfolio. Prior to joining EPOCH, Mr. Fox was employed by Pomroy Associates, a full-service real estate management company specializing in engineering and construction management services associated with real estate acquisition and divestiture, finance, development and asset management. Prior to Pomroy, Mr. Fox was Director of Project and Property Management for Meditrust Corporation, once a leading healthcare real estate investment trust which had real estate assets exceeding $3.5 billion. Mr. Fox holds a BS from Wentworth Institute of Technology where he graduated with honors and accreditation.
