President and Chief Executive Officer
Laurence, or Larry, Gerber has served as President and CEO of EPOCH Senior Living since the company’s founding in 1997. From 1991 to 1997, Larry was President and CEO of the Berkshire Group (Berkshire), a privately held firm with subsidiaries in long-term care, multifamily real estate and mortgage banking industries with over $10 billion in assets under management. From 1984 to 1990, he served in various senior executive capacities with Berkshire, with responsibilities for real estate acquisitions, mortgage banking, fundraising and strategic planning. Under Larry’s direction, Harborside Healthcare, the long-term care subsidiary of Berkshire, successfully completed an IPO and grew to more than 5,000 long-term care beds. While at Berkshire, Larry also served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Berkshire Realty Company and Chairman of Berkshire Mortgage Company. Prior to joining Berkshire, he was a management consultant with Bain & Company and a senior tax accountant with Arthur Andersen & Company. Larry received his BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
Joanna Cormac Burt
Chief Operating Officer
Joanna has served as Chief Operating Officer of EPOCH Senior Living since 2001. From 1999 to 2001, she served as Senior Vice President, overseeing all of the communities that EPOCH owns and manages. Prior to joining EPOCH, Joanna spent twelve years in various nursing home management roles. Her experience includes service as an Administrator with Hillhaven, where she worked from 1987 to 1996. Joanna also worked at SunBridge Healthcare as the Regional Manager, responsible for the daily operations of 1,250 skilled nursing beds. She is a Massachusetts Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and has a BS in Business Administration from Fitchburg State University and an MBA, which she received in 1996, from Northeastern University.
Chief Financial Officer
Debora has served as Chief Financial Officer for EPOCH Senior Living since June 2003. She was previously Vice President of the Meditrust Companies, a healthcare real estate investment trust in which she was responsible for overseeing a portfolio of $2.5 billion of healthcare investments. From 1992 to 2002, she managed a national portfolio of over 400 skilled nursing, assisted living and other healthcare-related properties. In her role at Meditrust, Debora conducted due diligence on various corporate acquisition targets as well as real estate investment opportunities. She actively participated in secondary public offerings of both stocks and bonds in the United States and Europe and worked closely with lending institutions and rating agencies. Debora is a Certified Public Accountant and was a senior manager in the healthcare practice at KPMG. She received her BS summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island.
Vice President of Planning and Development
Michael joined EPOCH in 1998. He is responsible for the company's acquisition and development effort under the supervision of the company’s President and CEO. His duties include identifying and securing acquisition and development opportunities, completing all necessary due diligence related to acquisition opportunities, and selection and management of third-party consultants. This includes market demand analysis and financial modeling. He is also responsible for the oversight of EPOCH’s home health agency and oversees the company’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO) networking strategies. Michael has over 20 years of senior housing and post-acute care industry experience Prior to joining EPOCH Senior Living in 1998, he was the Director of Reimbursement for PRISM Medical Group, a long-term care company that specialized in providing rehabilitation, nursing home management and home care services. Michael holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from Bryant College.
Karen Roberts, RN
Vice President of Clinical Services
Karen joined EPOCH Senior Living in October 1999 as Director of Clinical Services. She is responsible for clinical outcomes, clinical policy/procedure development and implementation, education, training and conducting peer reviews to ensure quality of care and regulatory compliance. In January 2008, Karen was named Vice President of Clinical Services. Prior to joining EPOCH Senior Living, she spent 19 years in various nursing home management roles at Hillhaven, Mediplex and SunBridge Healthcare and five years in acute care. Karen is a graduate of Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing.
Vice President of Memory Care Operations
Alicia joined EPOCH Senior Living in December 2011. She is responsible for the operations of Bridges® by EPOCH memory care assisted living communities under the direction of EPOCH Senior Living's Chief Operating Officer, Joanna Cormac Burt, and for maintaining the unique culture and personalized approach to care across all Bridges® communities. Alicia is a Memory Impairment Specialist certified by the National Institute on Aging, and she serves as an expert educator and trainer for Bridges® by EPOCH associates, families, and the greater community. She has more than 25 years of experience in the senior living industry, including her role as Executive Director of the flagship Bridges® by EPOCH community in Hingham, for which she was named Mass-ALFA Executive Director of the Year. With her extensive experience and deep understanding of various forms of dementia, Alicia supports the Bridges® teams in making a difference in the quality of life of those living with memory challenges.
Director of Acquisitions, Regulatory and Risk Management
Beth has been with the company since its founding in 1997. She has conducted financial, legal and operational due diligence, secured financing for and closed deals on over $250 million in assets. In addition to negotiating deal documents, Beth also negotiates significant company contracts. She obtains zoning and permitting for construction and redevelopment of senior housing. Through her strong relationships with state regulators, she has secured licensing and approvals to operate from public health departments throughout the country. Beth also manages the legal affairs, risk management and budgeting for the company. Prior to joining EPOCH Senior Living, she worked for Oasis Healthcare, a senior living company with 10 communities, where she was responsible for acquisitions. Beth holds a bachelor's degree from Simmons College and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law.
Director of Facilities Management
Charles, or Charlie, has been employed by the company since January 2008. Charlie's primary responsibilities include general project management, programming, budgeting and scheduling for the company’s development and renovation projects. In addition, he is responsible for capital expenditure planning, coordination and implementation for the EPOCH Senior Living portfolio. Prior to joining EPOCH Senior Living, Charlie was employed by Pomroy Associates, a full-service real estate management company specializing in engineering and construction management services associated with real estate acquisition and divestiture, finance, development and asset management. He also formerly served as the Director of Project and Property Management for Meditrust Companies, once a leading healthcare real estate investment trust which had real estate assets exceeding $3.5 billion. Charlie holds a BS from Wentworth Institute of Technology where he graduated with honors and accreditation.
Vice President of Marketing
Ms. Pepin joined EPOCH Senior Living in May 2019 as the Senior Director of Marketing. Within a short period, she was promoted to Vice President of Marketing. Ms. Pepin is responsible for driving the strategic direction of marketing and communications. She leads and works closely with agency partners to create and implement traditional and digital campaigns that convey the company’s brand and messaging with the commitment to seniors and their families. Her depth of experience, passion and commitment to help older adults allows for a great understanding of the market’s needs and expectations. Prior to joining EPOCH, Ms. Pepin was the Senior Director of Marketing for a regional senior living provider for five years and worked as the Vice President of an advertising agency for 12 years. Ms. Pepin holds a BS from Worcester State University and MBA from Assumption College.
Corporate Director of Sales
Ms. Martin has served as the Corporate Director of Sales since June 2019. She is responsible for all aspects of sales management and execution of sales strategies and tactics as she oversees all Senior Advisors at EPOCH Senior Living’s communities. Ms. Martin brings over 25 years of expertise to her role. Prior to joining EPOCH, Tina held several positions within the senior housing industry including Sales Specialist, Area Senior Director and District Director of Sales and Marketing. She began her work in the industry as a Director of Community Relations, building her expertise from the ground up. Prior to joining EPOCH, Ms. Martin was a Regional Director of Sales for two senior living organizations for a combined total of 11 years and has a combined 15 years of sales experience in the skilled nursing industry.
