The primaries had hardly been called when EPOCH Assisted Living at Boylston Place residents began clamoring for an audience with a candidate. After much anticipation, Rep. Barney Frank visited the community on Nov. 1 for a pre-Election Day discussion.
The Boston Herald, Boston Globe and WBZ-TV came to cover Frank’s appearance. Boylston Place was featured in several photos in the Herald’s photo album of candidates preparing for Election Day, and was included in a segment on the evening news about candidates’ final campaign pushes before Election Day.
While the media attention was exciting, several residents said they were thrilled that Frank would take the time to come to EPOCH and visit with seniors on such an important day.
People spilled into the hallway. Boylston Place’s theater was filled to capacity and beyond. Frank arrived to applause and discussed hot-button topics like the economy, health care reform and immigration with residents and a handful of guests lucky enough to be within earshot.
After speaking for 20 minutes, Frank turned the floor over to residents for questions.
Frank represents the fourth congressional district of Massachusetts and serves as the chairman of the Financial Services Committee. He began his career as a U.S. congressman in 1980 and is running for re-election.
