Piano performances and chowder on the cape this week

Piano is on tap at our Providence sister communities this week; April 24th at Blackstone, with Concetta Giso, and April 25 at East Side with Bruce Pratt. Concetta is a classical pianist while Bruce draws upon a variety of composers, so take your pick – or enjoy both! Then on the 26th, enjoy a trip to the Cape for Brewster in Bloom at Brewster Place. We will feature  our famous chowder, as well as rolls and sweets. Hope to see you!

Pianist Concetta L. Giso to perform at EPOCH on Blackstone Boulevard (April 24)

PROVIDENCE —Pianist Concetta L. Giso returns to EPOCH Senior Living on Blackstone Boulevard, 353 Blackstone Blvd., for a pub hour performance on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. Giso is an accomplished musician who regularly performs in the Providence area. History, game shows and informative discussions at EPOCH

This week, we’re offering several educational and informative events at our communities. First, historical presenter Gail Hamel will lead an educational program on colonial life. If you have a loved one or care for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s, join us for a discussion by Dr. Barrera. A Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Barrera will share helpful tips for effectively managing behaviors related to dementia and Alzheimer’s. To give you respite from your responsibilities, we’re hosting Mr. DJ’s Hollywood Quiz Show – a fun, interactive game show featuring an authentic, 4 team podium, digital scoring and hand-held clickers. Later in the week, George Robson III, the son of an EPOCH resident, will lead an informative discussion on the global economy. Finally, author Joshua Delany will discuss the wrecked pirate ship the Whydah. This sure is a great week for history buffs at EPOCH! Keep reading to learn more.

This week at EPOCH: Writing, crocheting and more

This week at EPOCH, we will host both fun events and great learning opportunities. We will host another poetry workshop led by Brown University instructor Rick Benjamin. This is a great opportunity to exercise your creativity and receive good feedback on your work. You’ll definitely want to stop by for the seminar, “What If…” which will teach you the importance of and tips for putting your personal affairs in order. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to crochet, you’ll have the opportunity to take classes at EPOCH this month. Finally, movie lovers won’t want to miss film critic Dan Kimmel’s discussion of “The African Queen.” Keep reading for more details!

We have a huge variety of things happening across our communities this week, even more so than usual. Several communities are putting on some really unique events, including a heath seminar on coffee and chocolate (yum!) and a martial arts demonstration with two expert martial artists. We’re also welcoming a husband-wife musical duo at our Providence community for a Broadway performance later this week. Keep reading for all the details!

The scoop on coffee, chocolate and health at Boylston Place (Sept. 11)

CHESTNUT HILL – EPOCH Assisted Living at Boylston Place, 615 Heath St., is thrilled to welcome Ava Hallam, RN, for a presentation called “Coffee and Chocolate: The Good, Bad and Ugly,” on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. Hallam will offer her professional insights into the health-related aspects of indulgences like coffee and chocolate. EPOCH hosts events for book worms and Big Band fans

With the high temperatures winding down, we suddenly feel like cozying up to a cup of coffee and a good book. So if a relaxing afternoon is what you need, join us at East Side for book club or Blackstone for a chat with a budding author. Or, if you’d rather stay warm by working up a sweat on the dance floor, take a trip to Melbourne for an enthralling big band performance or back to Blackstone for an intimate jazz concert.

EPOCH book club to discuss ‘Million Dollar Mermaid’  

PROVIDENCE—The book club at EPOCH Assisted Living on the East Side will discuss “Million Dollar Mermaid, an Autobiography” by Esther Williams on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. Williams is a former competitive swimmer and actress who rose to fame during the 1940s as the star of MGMs “Aqua Musicals.” Participation in the book club is free and open to the public.
